Our Founder
Ella Jefferson-Speed, also known as Sista Soul Survivor, is the visionary founder and CEO of Soul Survivor Supportive Living Foundation. With her background as a retired military veteran, she intimately understands the hurdles and obstacles confronting military women. Through Soul Survivor, Ella extends a helping hand to women veterans navigating homelessness, disability, involvement in the justice system, or military separation. She empowers them to transition from survival to thriving by offering a safe and supportive living environment.
Our Mission
We aim to provide complete support and shelter to our Shero's who have served our country and the community.
Here are the challenges we assist with:
With a focus on empowering veteran women facing unique challenges, we strive to be a beacon of hope and support in their journey toward healing by:
- Addressing the Silent Struggle:
- PTSD affects 13% of female veterans, compared to 6% of male veterans.
- Women veterans often suffer in silence, struggling to cope with the invisible wounds of their service.
- Combatting Homelessness:
In Oklahoma, 36% of female veterans are homeless, a statistic that doesn't even account for those couch-surfing or living under bridges.
- Confronting Incarceration Rates:
Oklahoma holds the fourth-highest rate of female incarceration in the nation, with more women per capita than any other state.
- Tackling Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders:
Our state grapples with some of the highest rates of mental illness and substance use disorders in the country.
- Supporting Rehabilitation Efforts:
Despite the challenges, there are rays of hope. The Oklahoma County Drug Court boasts an impressive graduation rate of 83%, with nearly 900 individuals successfully completing the program since its inception on March 27, 2022.
Let’s Make a Difference
The numbers paint a stark picture, but they also underscore the urgent need for action. There's much work to be done in improving these statistics, and Soul Survivor Supportive Living Foundation stands ready and willing to serve our community with dedication and compassion. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our veteran women, providing them with the support and resources they need to thrive beyond their service.
